By Wednesday night, January 4, Teaneck – in response to its voters’ November choices – will have ushered into Township leadership more change and fresh perspectives than at any other time in this century. Teaneck Voices excitedly awaits the work of this new, energetic set of leadership teams.

On Tuesday evening January 3 Council at its re-organization meeting will swear in as new members of the 7-member governing board, three challengers who have explicitly promised to lead a new era of transparent and inclusive municipal government. Those 3 women (Belcher, Gee and Goldberg) decisively out-polled the incumbent’s slate. 25-year incumbent Elie Katz barely made it back to Council membership. Just how this sharply-divided Council will choose its own leadership and shape development and other policy will play its way out over the next several months. In any event, this is how your new Council will look

On the following night (Wednesday the 4th) ) the Teaneck Board of Education will not only swear in two brand new Board members but will also formally welcome the District’s new Superintendent by ratifying the prior Board’s selection of Dr. Andre D. Spencer. (See Teaneck Voice’s biographical profile of Spencer in this edition).  The newly elected Board will feature a mix of re-affirmed incumbents to complete terms of two recently resigned members, welcome back a long-time now re-elected member and be retaining three incumbent members each with two more years to their elected terms. At the end of the night the new Board will turn – in closed session – to the task of choosing one additional member for 2023 to replace Danielle Gee who resigned the Board when elected to Council. Here is how your new BOE will be composed
